The Tables in this page will NOT be updated.
This page deals with Bank Holidays and other Public Holidays in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland (United Kingdom), and the Republic of Ireland (British Isles Table); and Canada & USA (North America Table).
For any year, the dates of holidays (other than those which are Easter-linked) in and after March are governed by the day-of-week of December 31st of that year; those for January and February by that of January 1st. Thus, March 1998 to February 2006 should cover all secular cases; the Tables which follow are laid out correspondingly.
For the years (Mar-Feb) in the top line, use the ones below :-
2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2000 2001 2003 1998 2004 2005 2001 2002 2003 1998 2005 2000
then see the second half of set-back.txt.
There were additional holidays at the 1999-2000 transition; see for example Critical and Significant Dates.
Firms may have their own special holidays.
If it's truly important to you, check with a local source; in particular, most North American Provincial and State holidays and variations are ignored here.
These Tables indicate days on which ordinary (non-retail) businesses and national/local government offices can be expected to close. They are not necessarily fully reliable. In some fixed-date cases, the celebration may be on the proper Saturday or Sunday, but the day off work may be a weekday.
Note that non-holiday festivities, at weekends, are not included; if it matters, check with some local person or reference.
Where in a Table a holiday occurs in more than one area, it may have been necessary to choose a compromise name, or to use the English one.
If a holiday is shown as not occurring, by "-", the day should be found to be at a weekend.
In the Tables, the self-calculation column assumes unchanged rules. Enter a year at the top or bottom, then click elsewhere.
Observance of public holidays in the UK is not generally mandatory, and other days may be observed locally - particularly in Scotland.
